1st Weekday Evening          18:45-21:15

  • Introductions
  • Pregnancy- "Adaptation and Preparation for Birth"
    • discussion about adjusting to new roles and dynamics, preparation for birth and a new baby, developing a support network
  • Antepartum concerns- "I am not in labour, but..."
    • - Normal changes in late pregnancy, when to call your doctor before labour starts, other concerns

Saturday                 09:30-16:45

  • Early Labour- "How to Cope at Home and When to Come in"
    • - Definition of early labour, mechanism of early labour, coping techniques and comfort measures, prodromal labour, pain management
  • Active Labour- "Coping and Comfort Measures in the Hospital or at Home"
    • - Digital hospital tour, mechanism of active labour, coping techniques and comfort measures, pain management, role of the partner

LUNCH (not provided)

  • Second Stage- "Pushing and delivery of your baby"
    • - Pushing, positions, delivery of your baby, afterbirth, first moments
  • Main Interventions- "Operative and assisted deliveries"
    • - Intravenous drips, inductions, use of oxytocin, vacuum and forceps delivery, caesarian section
  • First Two Hours- "Meeting your baby"
    • - Self-care, newborn behaviour, initiation of breastfeeding

2nd Weekday Evening           18:30-21:30

  • Breastfeeding- "Benefits and challenges"
    • - Choosing a feeding method, latch, positions, feeding on demand, signs that your baby is breastfeeding well
  • Baby Care- "Diapers, blankets, baths..."
    • - Newborn behavior, changing diapers, dressing your baby, safety, baths, cord care, blood tests, vitamin K and erythromycin, when to call the doctor
  • Self Care- "What about mom and dad?"
    • - Postpartum blues vs. depression, family planning, taking care of self, supportive resources
